About the Foundation
The California Association of Nurse Anesthetists Foundation (CANA Foundation) is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to advancing the knowledge and expertise of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and residents/students of nurse anesthesia. Through research support, publications, workshops, lectures, and educational programming, the Foundation works to improve the quality of care for every patient undergoing anesthesia.
Established in 2004 as a 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, the Foundation maintains a strong affiliation with the California Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (CANA) and its membership. It exists to provide a tax-deductible avenue for donations and grants from individuals and other funding sources — and to help assure the future success of nurse anesthetists and nurse anesthesia residents/students throughout California.
Our Mission
The CANA Foundation's mission is to improve the knowledge and expertise of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and students of nurse anesthesia concerning anesthesia practice — including, but not limited to, research, publications, workshops, and lectures — and to otherwise contribute to improving the quality of health care for persons undergoing anesthesia.
Awards & Grants
The CANA Foundation works closely with the CANA Board of Directors to award funds where they make the greatest impact. Past awards have included:
- Scholarships for poster presentations
- Grants for research presentations
- Sponsorship of Resident/Student Nurse Anesthetist events
- Education grants for attendance at AANA meetings
