Nurse Anesthetists Week Celebrated

On Thursday, January 24th, 2002, Assembly Member Rebecca Cohn (D-24th District), sponsored a resolution honoring National Nurse Anesthetists Week. Assembly Member Cohn presented the resolution HR-30 on the Assembly Floor to several members of CANA who were in attendance. In an overwhelming show of support for CRNA's across California, 65 of the 80 Assembly Members signed-on as co-author's on the measure. The resolution recognized the valuable role of CRNA's in California and the nation's health care system.

In addition to the resolution, members of CANA also had the opportunity to discuss issues important to our profession with Assembly Member Rebecca Cohn; Assembly Member Simon Salinas, member of the Assembly Health Committee; Senate Health Committee Chair Deborah Ortiz's Chief of Staff; Senate Health Committee Vice Chair Ray Hayne's Health Consultant; Assembly Health Committee Vice Chair Sam Aanestad's Chief of Staff; Assembly Member Sarah Reyes, Chair of the Assembly Rural Caucus; and Assembly Member George Runner's, Vice Chair of the Rural Caucus, staff liaison to the Rural Caucus. CANA members also met the current Speaker of the Assembly, Bob Hertzberg, Assembly Majority Leader and Chair elect of the Latino Caucus, Marco Firebaugh.

Overall, the day provided a perfect opportunity for CANA members to discuss the contributions of CRNA's across the state, focusing on our role in the rural and underserved communities, the military, labor and delivery, and other facets of California's health care system. We want to thank all of the individuals that helped make this happen and who participated in the event, because these are the types of opportunities that help reinforce the quality work that CRNA's provide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
